Hints of a new worldview
Hello loyal readers. Just back from an extended long weekend vacation by the ocean. I didn’t catch any stripers, but I read a lot.
(Oddly, the traffic on the blog went up while I was on holiday… I think it has something to do with the post called Off-Kilter Skivvies, which gets lots of random traffic from the search engines).
Anyway, back to the reading bit. I’ll spare you dull book reviews, but here’s an inspiring excerpt from Richard Tarnas, Cosmos and Psyche, Intimations of a New World View, via Paul Hawken’s Blessed Unrest:
“It is perhaps not too much to say that, in the first decade of the new millennium, humanity has entered into a condition that is in some sense more globally united and interconnected, more sensitized to the experiences and suffering of others, in certain respects more spiritually awakened, more conscious of alternative future possibilities and ideals, more capable of collective healing and compassion, and, aided by technological advances in communication media, more able to think, feel, and respond together in a spiritually evolved manner to the world’s swiftly changing realities than has ever before been possible.”
Yes, indeed! I feel this spirit when I troll around places like the WordPress forum and Good magazine in the wee hours of the morning.
The quote reminds me of Peter Russell’s eye-opening talk at Lohas 11… there’s something going on out there, or right here, something of historic proportions.
Can an informed global citizenry come together, aided by technology, to make up for the shortcomings of government and the excesses of globalization?
I think it can, and I’m very tempted to hop on the R 1200 GS to cover the story as it unfolds. Any one out there want to sign me up for this beat?

yes, well, I wasn’t hunting for skivvies when I found you, I was hunting for LOHAS marketing tips. And along the way I found this awesome blog! While I can’t sign you up for the beat, you’re welcome to follow along as I blaze the trail on my R1. Yes, it’s my dirty little habit. A LOHAS with a smog-belching race-spec motorcycle.
Oh, the incongruity! But that’s the way it’s got to be. We can all make a difference somehow, and we’re more likely to do so if we don’t have to give up everything we hold precious. I gave up cane sugar for agave and malted barley, but it’s not a sacrifice, it’s a pleasure.

thanks for the encouragement… i’ll have to do some homework on the R1 to see how it stacks up against the R 1200.

In an effort to help organizations around the world working on social and environmental change, Paul Hawken has been working on WISEREARTH.org for the past two years.
It helps make these orgs more conscious of each other so that they could find common ground in collaboration among the same areas of interest. There are currently more than 100,000 orgs in the database, all over the world. So I suggest starting out by looking for organizations located where you live..
Also, check out some of the more than 400 areas of focus, by which these orgs are classified. These areas of focus include: Information and Communication Technology, Alternative Fuels, Local Food Systems and Workers Rights.
